Dr. Jimmy Johnson is a Board Certified Specialist in Zoological Medicine (zoo, wildlife, aquatic animal medicine) with demonstrated history working in academia, client-based veterinary practice, and the museums and institutions industry, also holding a Master of Science (MS) in Veterinary Clinical Medicine/Epidemiology from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
Dr. Johnson is a Diplomate of the American College of Zoological Medicine (ACZM) and a Certified Aquatic Veterinarian by the World Aquatic Veterinary Medical Association (WAVMA). He is active in zoo, aquatic animal, and wildlife medicine and research, with special interests in novel therapeutics, microbial ecology, diagnostic imaging, dentistry, conservation science and wildlife health assessment, leadership, and veterinary education.
Dr. Johnson is also an active member of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA), serving as Veterinary Advisor for the Binturong Species Survival Plan and as Co-Veterinary Advisor for the Small Carnivore Taxon Advisory Group. He is also an instructor in the AZA Professional Development Courses 'Foundations of Ambassador Animal Management’ and ‘Animal Transport for Animal Care Professionals.’
